Gents, I understand wearing spandex bottoms when you’re competing in a sport that requires it. Football? Fo’ shizzle, those pants have my full approval. Wrestling? Sure, don’t want any extra fabric getting in the way. Bobsleigh? Absolutely, there isn’t much space in those sleds.
But lifting weights in the gym? Running on the treadmill? Who are you trying to impress? Because while you’re bulging out of your shorts, I’m forced to look at it from the rower since I’m strapped in and have nowhere to look but forward.
Kudos to the guys for being confident enough to rock the spandex, but if you want to wear spandex or compression shorts to the gym, put some GYM shorts on over top.
Ew. Inevitably it’s the guy that reeeeeally should NOT be wearing spandex. Ever.
No one wants to see that.
I’m a guy, and I’m a runner and cyclist, and I wear spandex to the gym, along with on the cycling & running trails outdoors. I don’t understand the double standard. Why are women “allowed” to wear what they want, but not me?
I’ve been wearing spandex to the gym since 2006. I used to wear baggy shorts to the gym but I prefer either spandex shorts or long tights (Under Armour, Nike, Skins, CW-X, etc). I even own some 3/4 length “capri” style tights. Guys wear that style more often in Europe & Japan.
Thanks.
Well Augi,
If you’d noticed, I specified that there were a number of sports/activities in which I said I thought it was acceptable for guys to wear spandex. I also clarified that often the guys who are wearing spandex at the gym are those who really shouldn’t be, because it’s unattractive. I would say even some women shouldn’t wear spandex either. Mostly I’m just not interested in seeing any junk in the trunk bouncing all over. Regardless of gender. I further stipulated that gym shorts can be worn OVER top of spandex or compression shorts as I’m aware many guys do this. I also have an issue with capris on guys, if you look for an earlier post, but that’s a separate issue. I’m aware that capris or 3/4 length pants are popular with men in Europe as I’ve spent a fair amount of time there.

Again, I don’t mean to offend anyone, it’s purely my opinion which many people happen to share. But please, if you feel the need to type passive aggressive responses to light-hearted blog posts, then that’s your perogative.
Hope you enjoy the other posts!
